G P (oop)S

It would appear someone at Garmin was phoning it in, probably on the Friday before a holiday weekend ... or perhaps the Tuesday after!

Taxi Pub(lic Establishment)

One of the reasons I love living in Illinois. Don't get me wrong... there are reasons I hate living in Illinois, too.

And one more flood shot (that I discovered I had taken with my Nikon and promptly forgotten about...) Saturday morning.

In the foreground to the right is a small field behind a restaurant. Beyond the little strip of green poking through just beyond the field is Tonne Drive. By Sunday afternoon all of the flooding was gone in the northwest suburbs.

Overnight Storm

Normally, flooding like this occurs when a nearby river or stream breaches its banks and inundates the surrounding areas. This flooding — widespread throughout the Chicago northwest suburbs — occurred in low-lying areas due simply to rainfall last night ... 6.9 inches in a matter of a few hours will do that.

Later during the day I caught this car flirting with me.

Should I Have Played the Lottery Today Instead?

Below is another shot of the dispatch terminal display in my taxi.

In this dispatch order, the top line displays the address where I am supposed to pick up this person. PACE is a regional transportation service and, when their buses aren't available, PACE sends taxis to its customers and subsidizes their fares. For the fare in the display, the passenger only had to pay a little more than 1/3 the actual $14.53 fare (don't worry... PACE reimburses me the rest).

The photo below displays my taxi number.

Heat Tsunami

Okay, is the "point-four" really necessary now?
(Approximately 12 noon.)

The Write Touch

Yes, the keys are dirty. How else would I write dirty words?

(Post-post post: I didn't notice until several minutes after I posted that if you let your mind wander a little Boggle™-style you can form the non-word "werds" from the keys visible in the photo!)

XX
XX

(This photo is down temporarily.)

Some of the women in my family, gathered for one woman's high school graduation party.

(Yes, I forgot to take a photo today.)

(Again.)

(Oh... and my ex-wife. Oops.)

(And one sister's ex-roommate. Double oops.)

Here's a photo of two of my sisters and one niece, and some women who — though pictured — are no longer in the picture.

Water Tower ... From Outer Space!

Water Tower, Des Plaines, Illinois.
Photo: Tony Gasbarro, iPhone 4.

It didn't strike me this way when I took the photo, but it sorta looks like an alien space ship landing, especially if you imagine the legs as energy beams easing it to the ground...and, perhaps, if you've been eating funny pills....

Another "End-Of-Day" Themed Shot

When I don't wanna work no more, I use the car's on-board terminal to tell the dispatch system that I'm off duty. A few moments later it logs me out of the system. Then it's sleepy time. Or movie time.

Context Isn't Always Your Friend

Even knowing this price is down about 57 cents from the highest it got at this particular gas station brings me no comfort.

He Breaks Fast With the Clown?

Rare is it that I can say, "That guy looks like..." and finish the sentence, because I usually am unable to think of the name of the guy that guy looks like. But today I finished it: "...James Lipton!"

James Lipton
