Brunch Trip
I went for brunch with a new friend and fellow actor in Emma's Child in Logan Square, one of the many storied neighborhoods of Chicago.
You don't see too many of these kinds of signs any more...
at least not in big cities.
Brunch was here, at The Rocking Horse, on Milwaukee
Avenue. My dish was delish!

...on the train ride back toward home.

Camera Toss
I read about it a few years ago. It's an art form created when you toss a camera into the air while the shutter is open. Some are long exposures, some are flash exposures. It's recommended that you toss a camera that you're not afraid to see damaged should you botch a catch. Some work (play?) in groups and toss the camera to one another. The photo below was a solo toss using the timer. To be safe, I held on to the shoulder strap — very tightly — while tossing the camera.
This may become a repeated theme here at Phlog!
And, yes. Today was one of those days when I found nothing inspiring to shoot, or I just plain neglected to snap anything...until I remembered "camera toss."

Confoundry
The View From the Street
Without clicking to embiggerate the photo (which you can do with all of the photos in Phlog)... can you read the number at this address? I don't understand how people can expect taxi- and delivery drivers to find them when their house numbers are camouflaged, obscured or otherwise ureadable.

Another Day In the Life
The Constructive Vandal
The sign originally read, "WELCOME SPORT CLIPS."
Later in the day there was a maintenance guy changing the
fluorescent lighting tubes in the left half of the sign. I can
only assume he took it upon himself to clean it up a little
from what I also assume was the pile of letters left by the
anonymous mischief maker. And no, it was not I.

Destinations
My usual first customer drop-off every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Rose, the old Italian lady who always gives me a leftovers doggy bag after every feasting holiday, has a standing 4:00 a.m. pickup reservation for her dialysis regimen. From hearing about the procedure, I would wish it only on my worst enemies. And Glenn Beck.
And Lush Bimbo.
My office with windows on every wall.

Streetwalker
Or Man On the Street
So I'm sitting at the post on the south end of Arlington Heights, biding my time, waiting for the dispatch system to send me a fare, basking in the warm buzz of a nearby hotel's stray Wi-Fi, playing on Facebook, checking e-mail, waiting for my brother to be home so I could go to his house to watch the Packers v. Bears NFC championship game, and I look up and see a guy walking south down the middle of Arlington Heights Road.
Granted, it's a very wide road, with a center-turn lane that gets even wider at the southbound approach to Algonquin Road, but you just don't expect to see someone be-boppin' down the middle of the road like that.
Stooopid guy.

Good Snow, Bad Snow
Bad Snow There is little else as angrifying as walking out the door in the morning, already running behind schedule, only to discover that a snow storm sneaked up on me (or that I didn't exactly listen to any weather reports the day before, but why split hairs?), but, more specifically, that it left enough on my car that I had to take time to clean it off. Grrrr.
Good Snow This has to be the cutest snowman I have ever seen!

Two • Ten • Eleven
Has there ever been something you wanted so bad that spending money you couldn't afford to spend was of no concern? On the date stated in the title of this post, the Apple iPhone comes to Verizon, and I will steal lunch money from kids on their way to school if I have to in order for the iPhone to. BE. MINE!

Hot 43 year-old Horsie!
I returned to the taxi post on the south end of Arlington Heights and found this guy drying off his beautiful 1968 Ford Mustang "California Special," having just come from the car wash across the street. He seemed flattered that I wanted to take some shots of his car, but a little wary that I was going to try to sell them to him. Oh, well.
